About 4500 people are living in the small town, located in the south of Swedish Lapland right between Skellefteå river and Piteå river. It’s about 2 hours by car to the coast destinations in the east, such as Luleå, Piteå and Skellefteå. It’s approximately the same distance to the high mountains in Arjeplog municipality and the Norwegian border in the west. Arvidsjaur was born as a trading center for Sami and Swedish people over 400 years ago. Today a hub for test industry of the world and continues the proud tradition of meetings between cultures.
Activities
Top snowmobiling and driving on ice is found here along with great nature and fishing in summer. The many lakes in the area are home to fantastic fishing environments and the magical forest landscapes offer majestic walking trails, an untouched natural environment and mountain peaks with breathtaking views. You can do a daytrip to the cold spring “Grodsjön” (frog lake). The beautiful cold spring has green, clean water and looks like something taken from fairy tales. At the bottom of the source you can see how the water bubbles like a nature’s own hot tub. The Sámi herders has their reindeers wandering openly in the forest so you might get lucky glancing a reindeer!
