Northern Lights Photography holiday

NORTHERN LIGHTS PHOTOGRAPHY – SWEDISH LAPLAND
This New Year’s Eve travel package is suitable for photographers of all levels and is led by professional photographer Peter Rosén who has more than 20 years of experience in professional photography. He offers you an in-depth photo course on how to capture the aurora, stars, galaxies, Sámi culture, wildlife and the spellbinding midwinter landscape in the best possible way.

Peter will bring you the full story behind your beautiful images. The history of the breath taking nature and exciting culture of Lapland is an essential part of every tour. Your will learn about the Sámi culture which is an integral part of this region, the fascinating science behind the Northern lights, the unique ecosystem you are in and how it has been shaped by natural forces over the millennia. The animals and vegetation are specialised to survive this climate, from the lichens clinging to rocks up to the majestic moose. Every photo you shoot captures some aspect of Lapland culture, science and history.

The fleeting nature of the Northern lights means it is naturally difficult to guarantee you will see them, but to date we have been thrilled! This means that all previous guests participating on multi-day tours ever since the start six years ago have seen and captured the northern lights in beautiful environments.  Contact us for more information or visit our website for more information about this New Year’s Eve special travel package Northern Lights Photography.  Photo; Peter Rosén

Luleå winter activities 2018/19

LULEÅ WINTER ACTIVITIES 2018/19
For upcoming winter season we have many new activities to choose from! Experience the thrill of snowmobiling or a dogsledding tour or enjoy the serenity of the wilderness on snowshoes. We also offer this year day tours to Nature Reserve Storforsen a perfect example of a majestic river landscape in Norrland. The Pite River is one of the four unharnessed National Rivers of Sweden and the rapids are one of the biggest unrestricted water rapids in Europe.

The river is stretching 400 kilometres from its glacial source to the sea! In winter when air temperatures drop really low, even the rapids freeze. An ice dam forms and water is forced into out into the surrounding forest, which freezes over around the trees and bushes of the river banks into a unique winter scenery. During winter the river banks are often lined with tracks from grouse, hares, squirrels, elk and reindeer. Also there is a chance to see otter and mink looking for spots of open water, rapids an streams where they can fish.

All our Luleå winter activities can be booked save and directly online, or contact us if you need more information.

Luleå Ice Track – Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis reaches 93 km/h

Luleå Kjeld Nuis

Wednesday, 28 March 2018- Luleå Ice track. Having won two Olympic Gold medals in both 1000 and 1500 metres in South Korea, conditions were ideal for the Dutch speedskater Kjeld Nuis to reach high speeds in Luleå – Swedish Lapland. Setting a new world record as fastest man on ice! Luleå Travel was part in this project with accommodating everybody involved in two of our traditional Tipi tents on the ice, during daytime. The smallest tent as private hideout for Kjeld Nuis and the biggest tent – Stratus 72 as working, eating and lounge area for up to 40 persons crew. It has been a great project to be involved and it’s good to see that the Luleå ice track is used in so many ways during the winter season!

Icebreaker tours Luleå – Swedish Lapland

Activities Luleå – Swedish Lapland

An unique experience while visiting Swedish Lapland is to join a tour on board of a icebreaker operating in the Bothnian Bay. The icebreaker is a unique vessel. Unlike other ships, the icebreaker has a specially designed reinforced hull to withstand the pressure of the ice, an ice-clearing shape to cut a channel through the frozen waters, and the great power to push through sea ice. In the beginning of winter ice is not more than 30-50 cm thick, but by April it could reach up to 2 meter.

During 3 hours you will be a witness of a massive ice breaking power of the vessel, have a guided tour all the way down to the engine rooms and all way up to Captain’s bridge. You can relax in the cozy saloon, enjoying warm juice or go for walk on the frozen sea ice during the stop.  The icebreaker makes a pool free of ice and every visitor can take a swim in the dark icy water in flotation survival suit. You can choose between two different icebreakers, different in size, price and location.

Between December and April there will be daily departures, you can book online or call for more information +46(0)70 6666 805
