Jokkmokk Winter Market 2020

Jokkmokk winter market holiday.

Are you interested in travelling to Swedish Lapland? The Jokkmokk winter market is one of the oldest market places in Sweden, with dates back to middle ages. It’s the biggest sales opportunity of the year since 1605 for the Sámi traders to make contacts and see old friends.  During the market you can experience the widest collection of Sámi handicrafts in the country, folk dance, traditional music, reindeer rides, lectures and taste local food.

UNESCO World Heritage

In this 3rd edition of our Jokkmokk Winter Market travel package we have included a guided tour to the district’s main cultural symbol ´Gammelstad´. A unique UNESCO World heritage site which literally means ‘old town’ located about 10km  more inland then Luleå. On the tour your guide will bring you back in history, to the time Northern Sweden was still a so called no man’s land. Gammelstad church town is more than 400 years old and is the best preserved church town in Sweden.

Dog sledding tour

A visit to Swedish Lapland during winter isn’t complete without going on a dog sledding tour, therefore we have included this activity as well.  The strength of the dogs and their capability to pull the sled at high speed in the snow covered terrain will give you a memory for life. Beside the planned activities there will be enough time to enjoy the city of Luleå on your own. The entrance to the ice track is on walking distance from your hotel. The track is about 10 km long and except ice-skating or kick sledding its very suitable for making a walk and absorb the winter scenery.

Winter in Swedish Lapland is a season to be looked forward to; a time of cold, crisp days, white landscapes and blue skies. These tours are an more active alternative from our regular Northern Lights tours by car.  This unique winter experience will take you on a walk into a winter wonderland. To view the night sky far away from disturbing city lights and enlarge you chance to see the Northern Lights.

With the sound of crunching snow under your feet and your headlamps illuminating your path of glistering snow, an mysterious world of changing shapes is created. Close to Luleå you now have the opportunity to see and meet the king of the forest. In this new established wild park are currently moose Zigge, Zebbe and Zaga. They where born in May 2017 and Zigge and Zebbe moved to the park in august 2017. Zaga came to the park just over one year old at the end of August 2018 and has quickly accustomed herself.

The biggest and most impressive of our tents is the Stratus 72 with a diameter of 10.3m and 7m height, it can host up to 60 people seated. Truly an eye catching and impressive structure. The unique design of the tents allows you to be able to lift all or some of the sides to allow the Swedish summer sun in or take advantage of a spectacular view. Snowmobile tours in Luleå. Combine the speed and excitement of a snowmobile with the beauty of Luleå in winter. Snowmobiles allow you to feel the freedom of covering large areas in a short space of time, its a fabulous way to get around. You can go on a short or a longer snowmobile tour where you will drive over frozen sea ice, through forest and discover animal life. We offer different tours, from 2 to 4 hours.  Along the way stops are made for tea or coffee, where the guide will tell you about the surroundings and about life and nature in Swedish Lapland. With the longer tours you even have the chance to try your luck with ice-fishing!

The destination of the 4 hour is the island Brändöskär in the outermost archipelago, an idyllic fishing village dating from the 17th century. The chapel from 1774 and one of the fishing-huts will be visited. Outside the island is the frozen Bothnian Bay with its seemingly endless fields of pack ice and snow. Some years the blue ice of the sea piles up into high formations.
