Arctic Sweden Christmas Holiday
Experience the best Swedish Lapland has to offer during the Christmas festive season. Snowy rooftops, flickering candles and the warm smell of freshly baked gingerbread. With this Christmas holiday you will travel from coast to the mountains in 8 days. This unique trip starts in Luleå, the largest city of Swedish Lapland. Located on the coast, 150km south of the Arctic Circle. From here you will travel through endless snow-covered forests into the alpine surrounding of the Abisko National Park. About 200km north of the Arctic Circle and one of the best places on earth to watch the magical Northern Lights.
Swedish Christmas
With this 8 days holiday you will experience the special festive Christmas feeling in Swedish Lapland. Beautiful Christmas lights are added to streets, malls and gardens. Peaceful Christmas stars and candles light up windows and the sweet smell of warm Glögg (mulled wine) and gingerbread welcome you to take part in this Swedish Christmas! You will enjoy the exclusive and traditional “Julbord” – Swedish Christmas Buffet that features cured or smoked salmon, pickled herring, Christmas ham and Swedish classic meatballs.
Iconic winter activities
To complete this unique Christmas holiday, some of the most iconic winter activities are included. Dog sledding, Snowmobiling, Northern Lights Safari, feeding reindeers etc. Furthermore, you will visit the world’s first ICEHOTEL, Aurora Sky Station and stay overnight in one of the most extraordinary accommodation possible in the TreeHotel. You will be also well taken care of by full board plan from dinner of the arrival day until breakfast of the departure day.






ITINERARY
Arctic Sweden Christmas Holiday | 8 days / 7 nights

Day 1 – Arrival day
Arrival at Luleå airport based on your flight schedule, you will be warmly welcomed by our local guide. On the short drive (9km) to your hotel in the city centre, you already get a good impression from the impressive Luleå river as you will cross the bridge which connects Luleå with the southern mainland. Check into your comfortable 4 star hotel. In the evening you will go on a Northern Lights tour. You will be taken off the beaten track to the best places to spot most thrilling natural phenomena the world has to offer. Return around 23:00 and a good night sleep.
Day 2 – Moose, UNESCO World Heritage and Swedish Julbord
Enjoy the fresh nip in the air, get rosy cheeks and take your cheer outside. Just wrap yourself up in warm clothing, hat and gloves before you spend the morning outdoors meeting Moose and visiting the UNESCO World heritage site Gammelstad. This district’s main cultural symbol is more than 400 years old and it has he best preserved church town in Scandinavia. Around 13:00 you can warm yourself up with a glass of spicy mulled wine (glögg) and enjoy a typical Swedish Christmas buffet. Taste from several dishes, such as Christmas ham, meatballs, Jansson’s temptation (baked potato in sauce), herring and parsley but also many local dishes, before heading back to the hotel.
Day 3 – Dog sledding and TreeHotel
After your breakfast you will be picked up for the transfer to the nearby Husky kennel. Going on a dog sledding tour is a unique experience in many ways. The dog sledding tour will go over frozen rivers and through wild forests, offering a great opportunity to see wildlife on the way. The experience is 2 hours in total and it is sure to leave you with some fantastic memories. By return in the city, you will pick up your luggage from the hotel and get transferred to the world’s famous Treehotel. The Treehotel is an extraordinary destination where nature and luxury meet. An experience like no-other, where you will stay in one of the unique designed tree rooms like: UFO, Mirror Cube, Bird Nest, Blue Cone or The Cabin. To complete the Swedish living experience use of the Tree Sauna is included.
Day 4 – Crossing the Arctic Circle and Aurora Sky Station
Today your Christmas holiday continues further Northwards by train to the Abisko National Park. This unique journey across the Arctic landscape will bring you in a comfortable way far above the Arctic Circle. You will stay overnight by the STF Abisko Mountain Station, where in the evening a unique visit to the Aurora Sky Station is included. The Aurora Sky Station is situated on Mount Nuolja, 900 meters above sea level. The Lonely Planet has listed it as one of the ten unbeatable places in the world to experience the Northern Lights. There is also the possibility to enjoy a special 4 course Nordic cuisine dinner, giving you an exclusive experience of local produce from Lapland.
The unique 4 course dinner at the Aurora Sky Station is optional to book by this holiday.
Day 5 – Snowmobile safari
Waking up after a good night sleep, enjoying breakfast and get ready for your next adventure! A snowmobile safari which will bring you further into the wilderness and higher up in the mountain areas. Through the frozen landscape it is not uncommon to encounter the “King of the Forest”, the majestic moose. Before making your way back to hotel, you will stop for a break and the guide will make a fire where you will be able to enjoy a hot beverage together with the magnificent views. Rest of the day you may enjoy the peace and silence of your Christmas eve in Abisko, where you have another chance to see the magical Northern Lights during the evening!
Day 6 – Kiruna and Aurora Spa
This morning is of your choice to explore more, or maybe just having a laid-back morning taking the time for your hotel breakfast. If you would like to discover more in the Abisko surroundings , we can easily arrange additional activities as ice fishing and snowshoe walking for you. Just tell us your preferences and we can customise your holiday to your wishes! After lunch your transfer will be ready to bring you to the modern city of Kiruna. You will spend the night by Camp Ripan, a family-owned hotel who are passionate about highlighting everything that makes the northernmost part of Sweden so fantastic. After arrival you can enjoy the Aurora Spa, which has been recently rewarded with the World’s Luxury Spa Awards. Relax and melt away as you pamper yourself with a relaxing sauna bath and a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool.
Day 7 – ICEHOTEL & Sámi Culture
During the morning you will join a guided tour to the charming village of Jukkasjärvi, where the world’s first ICEHOTEL situates. Here you can see the fantastic sculptures and the ice rooms in peace on your own. The tour continues with a visit to a “Sámi Church” from 1607. The Old Homestay with its atmosphere and old timber houses gives an impression of the early settlers lifestyle in this arctic environment, and the interaction with the Sámi people and their culture. The tour ends with a visit to a Sámi settlement Nutti Sámi Sidda. This is a unique place to learn more about the Sámi culture, get close to reindeers and experience typical Sámi food. After lunch the tour will head back to the hotel Camp Ripan.
Day 8 – Departure Day
After all experiences during this Sweden Christmas holiday it’s time to travel homewards. Maybe you have some time left to relax or do an activity in the area. But if you have an early flight then it’s time to get ready and checkout of your hotel room. You will be picked up from the lobby of your accommodation, the transfer to Kiruna Airport takes about 15 minutes.
