This unique trip starts in Luleå, the largest city of Swedish Lapland. Located on the coast, 150km south of the Arctic Circle. From December, Luleå is a frozen wonderland of snow and ice trails, where you can ski, skate, walk and sled across the bay directly from the city centre. Between February and April, you can even drive your car across the ocean, with some roads even stretching all the way to the surrounding archipelago’s islands.

Crossing the Arctic Circle

From Luleå you will travel by train through the endless snow-covered forests towards the northernmost town in Sweden, Kiruna. Enjoy Aurora Spa, visit the world famous ICEHOTEL  and learn more about the indigenous Sámi culture during a visit to a Sámi settlement.

From Kiruna the journey proceeds into the alpine surrounding of the Abisko National Park. About 200km north of the Arctic Circle. The famous hiking trail Kungsleden (the King’s Trail) and several other trails and nature paths traverse the park.

Iconic winter activities

With this 7 days winter package you will experience some of the most iconic winter activities. Dog sledding, Snowmobiling, Northern Lights Safari, feeding reindeers etc. Furthermore, you will visit the Aurora Sky Station one of the best places on earth to watch the magical Northern Lights.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrival day

Arrival at Luleå airport based on your flight schedule, you will be warmly welcomed by our local guide. On the short drive (9km) to your hotel in the city centre, you already get a good impression from the impressive Luleå river as you will cross the bridge which connects Luleå with the southern mainland. Check into your comfortable 4 star hotel. In the evening you will go on a Northern Lights tour. You will be taken off the beaten track to the best places to spot most thrilling natural phenomena the world has to offer. Return around 23:00 and a good night sleep.

Day 2 – Free day, choose from optional activities

Today it is free for you to explore Luleå, the biggest city of Swedish Lapland located just below the Arctic Circle. Luleå is an exciting city with an interesting culture-life and a wide variety of restaurants. It is also close to nature and the coast of Bothnian Bay. You may discover this vibrant city on your own or choose from optional activities like snowshoe walking, ice fishing or visiting the UNESCO World heritage site Gammelstad.

Day 3 – Dog sledding and TreeHotel

After your breakfast you will be picked up for the transfer to the nearby Husky kennel. Going on a dog sledding tour is an unique experience in many ways. The dog sledding tour will go over frozen rivers and through wild forests, offering a great opportunity to see wildlife on the way. The experience is 2 hours in total and it is sure to leave you with some fantastic memories. By return in the city you have time to lunch before your transfer is ready to bring you to the world famous TreeHotel. The Treehotel is a unique destination where nature and luxury meet. An experience like no-other, where you will stay in one of the unique designed tree rooms like: UFO, Mirror Cube, Bird Nest, Blue Cone or The Cabin. To complete the Swedish living experience use of the unique Tree Sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi are included.

Day 4 – Crossing the Arctic Circle and Aurora Spa

Today your winter holiday continues by train to the city of Kiruna. This unique journey across the Arctic landscape will bring you in a comfortable way far above the Arctic Circle. You will spend the night by a family-owned hotel who are passionate about highlighting everything that makes the northernmost part of Sweden so fantastic. In the evening a dinner is served from regional fresh produce. Afterwards you can enjoy the Aurora Spa. Relax and melt away as you pamper yourself with a relaxing sauna bath and a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool.

Day 5 – ICEHOTEL and Aurora Sky Station

During the morning you will join a guided tour to the charming village of Jukkasjärvi, where the world’s first ICEHOTEL situates. Here you can see the fantastic sculptures and the ice rooms in peace on your own. The tour continues with a visit to a “Sámi Church” from 1607 and a visit to the Sámi settlement Nutti Sámi Sidda. In the midday you will travel further Northwards to the Abisko National Park. Where in the evening a unique visit the Aurora Sky Station is included. The Aurora Sky Station is situated on Mount Nuolja, 900 meters above sea level. The Lonely Planet has listed it as one of the ten unbeatable places in the world to experience the Northern Lights. There is also the possibility to enjoy a special 4 course Nordic cuisine dinner, giving you a unique experience of local produce from Lapland.

The unique 4 course dinner at the Aurora Sky Station is optional to book by this holiday. 

Day 6 – Snowmobile safari

Waking up after a good night sleep, enjoying breakfast and get ready for your next adventure! A snowmobile safari which will bring you further into the wilderness and higher up in the mountain areas. Through the frozen landscape it is not uncommon to encounter the “King of the Forest”, the majestic moose. Before making your way back to hotel, you will stop for a break and the guide will make a fire where you will be able to enjoy a hot beverage together with the magnificent views. In the midday there are no activities planned and you can spend the time according your wishes.

Day 7 – Departure Day

After all experiences during this Sweden winter holiday it’s time to travel homewards. Maybe you have some time left to relax or do an activity in the the area But if you have an early flight then it’s time to get ready and checkout of your hotel room. You will be picked up from the lobby of the Abisko Mountain station, the transfer to Kiruna Airport takes about 1.5 hour.
