Luleå is located just below the Arctic Circle and is the biggest city in Swedish Lapland. It is surrounded by forests, over 1,300 islands in the archipelago, the brackish sea and river valleys. The daily flights and train connection from Stockholm makes Luleå the perfect gateway into the Swedish Lapland.
Luleå has a warm, sunny and flowery summer. The summer Midnight Sun allows diversified outdoor activities and al fresco dining round-the-clock. It also has a rich culture. The UNESCO site Gammelstad is located about 10km more land inwards and is the best-preserved church town in Sweden. Meanwhile one of Europe’s biggest rapids Storforsen is also not far located from Luleå.

Together with an experienced guide you will learn more about the local flora and fauna in the nearby nature reserves surrounding Luleå. In addition this Luleå Summer Break package brings you to the main cultural site for the region- the UNESCO World Heritage Site Gammelstad. The old church town is more than 400 years old and since then not much has changed. Together with an experienced guide you will walk through the labyrinth of narrow streets in between the more than 400 old charming and red coloured cottages.

ITINERARY
Luleå Summer Break | 4 days / 3 nights
Day 1 – Arrival day
Arrival at Luleå airport based on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to your hotel – Elite Stadshotellet. On the short drive (9km) to your hotel, you already get a good impression from the impressive Luleå river as you will cross the bridge which connects Luleå with the southern mainland.
Your hotel of the upcoming nights is ideally located on ‘Storgatan’, Luleå’s main street. Along the street you will find different cafes, restaurants with outdoor seating and shops. This classic hotel, dating back to 1903, has a majestic entrance hall and an impressive banquet room in a French Renaissance style. After settling your luggage, it is time to start enjoying your round-the-clock daylight in Luleå!

Day 2 – UNESCO site Gammelstad and Meet a Moose
After a good night sleep and enjoying your breakfast buffet, you will meet your guide in the hotel lobby and start your wonderful day in Luleå! First you will join a guided tour to the UNESCO World Heritage site Gammelstad – The Old Church Town. Together with your experienced guide you will walk through the labyrinth of narrow streets and visit the medieval Church. Most of the church town is still in the same style as in the 17th century. The day continues to the nearby Moose & Reindeer Park. Moose is the largest of all the deer species and is Scandinavia’s biggest wild animal. During this visit you have the opportunity to meet this giant animal, where you can come real close and be able to feed them by hand.
During the midday you have time to discover this coastal city in Swedish Lapland on your own. Luleå has a wide, exciting range of restaurants and cafés. Here you will find everything from local Swedish Lapland delicacies to international food from all over the world often based on local ingredients from the nearby wilderness and farms. Day 3 – Experience Swedish nature
After breakfast, your experienced guide will meet you to explore one of the nearby nature reserves. The walks are taken at a leisure pace, where no special experience is required. During the walk you will learn more about local flora and fauna and the history of the region. A stop will be made for tea/coffee made in the traditional way, above open fire. You may also have chances to pick seasonal berries and mushrooms. This tour is 3 hours from pickup to drop off at your accommodation. If you are interested in longer more intense hikes, we also offer a 5 hour forest hike. Around mid-summer (late June-early July), we can also switch this Nature Walk tour to evening as a Midnight Sun Hike.
There are no activities planned for the rest of the day. The surrounding of Luleå offers many possibilities to enjoy the sun and nature. If you are interested in more outdoor activities like fishing or kayaking, we can easily arrange for you.
Day 4 – Departure Day
We wish you a good trip back home. Transfer will be provided to Luleå airport or train station. Luleå and surrounding Swedish Lapland has much more to explore. If you want to extend the trip with more activities, such as the close-by Storforsen Nature Reserve, which is one of the biggest rapids of Europe.
