Autumn usually has a clearer sky, is less cloudy and has least risk of snowing weather. The earth’s orientation towards the sun during Autumn maximises the probability of solar flares interacting with the planet’s magnetic field to generate this phenomenon. This Autumn Aurora holiday is therefore perfect for aurora hunters during the warmest time of the entire Northern light season.
This 5-day holiday highlights hand-picked accommodations, including an award-winning Glass Villa by the Bothnian Coast in Kemi, offering panorama views to spot the magical Northern Lights from your bedroom. The other 2 nights you will spend in the newest Spa Hotel in Luleå, the biggest city in Swedish Lapland. The package includes a Northern lights tour, a visit to the Moose & Reindeer Park as well as a guided tour to UNESCO World Heritage site Gammesltad.
Finnish Lapland – Kemi
Kemi situates close to the Finnish border near the Gulf of Bothnia. This small Lappish town is well connected by daily flights to Helsinki, as well as train network to other parts of Finland. In Kemi this package includes a fairy-tale-like ice-sculpture exhibition for you. You also have the option from Kemi to visit the famous Santa Claus Village and the Ranua Wildlife Zoo.
Swedish Lapland – Luleå
Located by the Bothnian Bay just below the Arctic Circle, Luleå is well known as “The Gateway to Swedish Lapland”. It is surrounded by over 1,300 islands, the brackish sea, river valleys and vast forestland. Being the biggest city of Swedish Lapland, Luleå has a vibrant city life with beautiful nature, an interesting culture-life and a wide variety of restaurants.
This Autumn Aurora holiday is ideal for whom with limited vacation to experience the thrilling aurora moments, and whom extend their Lapland adventure after visiting other parts of Scandinavia. ITINERARY
Amazing Autumn in Lapland | 5 days / 4 nights
Day 1 – Home to Kemi, Finland
Upon arrival at Kemi Airport, your transfer will be ready to bring you to your hotel (8km, approx. 15 minutes drive). Here you will spend the night in a unique Seafront Premium Villa, located first row next to the coast. The villas with glass roof and huge windows, offer you the best panorama view to the sea and the sky! After dinner, you can put your feet up, lay down in the warm and comfortable bed in your glass villa to observe the magical Northern lights and the starry sky. While you visit Lapland during Autumn, you may still experience the winter wonderland in SnowExperience365, the ice-sculpture exhibition situated next to the hotel reception.
Day 2 – Free Day to explore Kemi and surrounding
Today is a free day for you to explore Kemi and surroundings. You may choose from below options to fill in your day, or simply relax in the hotel area where you can cherish the Finnish Lapland nature by the Bothnian Sea.

Day 3 – Border crossing and Northern Lights
After a good night sleep and enjoying your breakfast, it is time to check out from the hotel. Today you will leave Finland behind you and proceed to the northern most part of Sweden, Swedish Lapland. The route follows the Swedish coastline and around lunch you will arrive in the modern city of Luleå. Being the biggest city of Swedish Lapland, Luleå has a vibrant city life with beautiful nature, an interesting culture-life and a wide variety of restaurants. Optional you can choose from additional activities as fatbiking or a guided nature walk in the nearby nature reserves.
In the evening you will go together with an experienced guide on a Northern Lights tour. Your guide will use his experience, combined with local weather and aurora forecasts to make the best possible decision about where to look for the Northern lights. You will be taken off the beaten track to the best places to spot most thrilling natural phenomena the world has to offer.
Transfer distance Kemi (Finland) to Luleå (Sweden) 160km, approx. 2h driving. Including border crossing.
Day 4 – UNESCO World Heritage Gammelstad, Meet a Moose and Reindeer.
Start the day with a guided tour to the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Gammelstad. Followed by a visit to a Moose & Reindeer Park. After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at 09:00. Gammelstad is the best preserved church town in Sweden, located about 10km more inland in Luleå and it’s the district’s main cultural symbol. Most of the church town is still in the same style as in the 17th century. Together with your guide, you will walk through the labyrinth of narrow streets and the old farms. The medieval stone church outstanding among the 400 old charming and red-colored timber cottages form the beautiful frame of Gammelstad.
Today’s tour will continue to the Moose & Reindeer Park, where you will meet the King of Forest – Moose! The Moose is the largest of all the deer species. They reach 170-210cm height at shoulder and a large bull can weight up to 850kg. These kings of the forest are an imposing sight with their huge crowns of antlers, but they are generally shy. Considering their huge size moose are surprisingly seldom seen. In the park you can feed and get real close to the Moose, there are also some reindeers that you can interact with.
Day 5 – Departure Day
After your Autumn holiday in Swedish and Finnish Lapland it’s time to travel homewards. Depending on the schedule of your return flight, maybe you have some time left to enjoy the hotel spa facilities and its all-season sauna relaxation. You may also choose from other activities we offer to enrich your experience before heading home.
If you have an early flight, then it is time to get ready and check out of your hotel room. You will be picked up from the lobby of the hotel and after a short transfer (10 minutes) you arrive at Luleå Airport (or train station).
