Since prehistoric times the Sámi people of Arctic Europe have lived and worked in this area. They have followed their reindeer to different seasonal grazing areas for thousands of years.  During this holiday you will visit traditional Sámi places like Jokkmokk and Arjeplog and experience outdoor activities as fishing and berry picking.

Abisko National Park

Travelling through Swedish Lapland means miles with untouched nature, stunning views and impressive mountain formations.  There are 29 national parks in Sweden, one of them being Abisko with the picturesque Lapporten (Gate of Lapland in Swedish) which is included in this holiday. You will also bring a visit to the mining city Kiruna and the world famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. Alongside the Torne river you continue following the Swedish – Finnish border into the picturesque fishing village Kukkolaforsen, before heading back to Luleå. In 8 days, you will travel through some of the world’s most unique landscapes, experience Sámi culture and cross the Arctic Circle.

Sweden group tour – Discover Arctic Sweden

DAY 1 – Luleå is the capital of the northern most county of Sweden. Take a rest after your flight, enjoy your free time to stroll around the city centre with nice parks, a boulevard, shopping malls, grocery stores and cafés.

DAY 2 After a good nights sleep and enjoying your Scandinavian breakfast buffet it’s time to move on. Your first tour today is to the UNESCO World Heritage site Gammelstad. You will visit the medieval church and join a guided tour through the labyrinth of narrow streets in between the more than 400 old charming and red coloured cottages. After a short drive and lunch you will visit Europe’s biggest rapids Storforsen before heading to Sweden’s deepest lake Hornovan in Arjeplog.

DAY 3 – The little mountain village Arjeplog claims to have an archipelago in the middle of the mountains. During the morning you will see the Arjeplog church, Galtis and Silverhatten mountains and the nearby lakes.  You will visit the Silver Museum representing Arjeplog’s sámi culture and history connecting to silver mining. Where in the midday you will cross the Arctic Circle on your way to Jokkmokk.

DAY 4 – Jokkmokk is one of the best places in Swedish Lapland to experience traditional Sámi arts and crafts.  You will visit the Ájtte Swedish Mountain and Sámi Museum and go on an easy forest walk in the midday to pick your own berries. In the midday the route continues further north to the world famous ICEHOTEL, where an unforgettable gastronomy of 5-course dinner will be served on ice!

DAY 5 – After breakfast you have the chance to make your own Ice Sculpture at the ICEHOTEL. Show your creativeness on the crystal clear ice harvested from Torne River. Where in the midday you visit a Sámi Camp in Jukkasjärvi’s old market place before heading to the small mountain village Abisko, about 200km north from the Arctic Circle.

DAY 6 – Waking up in the picturesque Abisko national park framed with the stunning nature of Mount Njullá,  lake Torneträsk and Lapporten (Gate of Lapland in Swedish). Guided tour into the park to get close to nature before heading to the mining city Kiruna, where the entire city is built and transformed based on its world’s biggest underground iron-ore mining development.

DAY 7 – Today you will visit a husky kennel to meet 180 huskies and puppies. The owner will explain how they train and take care of so many dogs. You will also go fishing in a lake nearby, where it has a good amount of trout and perch that you may catch for your lunch. The route continues alongside the Torne river to Kukkola, a charming fishing village by the Sweden-Finland border where you will spend the night. 

DAY 8 – After breakfast, you will be transferred directly to Luleå Airport. You can have an option to drop off in Luleå city center and get airport transfer again in case you have a late flight. Remember all the sweetness and nature experience, and most important to come back and see the beauty of different seasons!
