Accommodation
During this Winter Bucket List holiday you will stay in the world’s first ICEHOTEL, locted in the small village of Jukkasjärvi. Since 1989, the hotel has been reincarnated every winter from massive ice blocks harvested from the adjacent Torne River. A hotel and an art exhibition with ever-changing art made out of ice and snow. Here you will stay one night in a one-of-a-kind Ice Room and the remaining two nights in a cozy, hotel-standard warm room.
ITINERARY
Winter Bucket List | 4 days / 3 nights
Arrival Day
Upon arrival at Kiruna airport, you will be transferred to the ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, a small village 200km north of the Arctic Circle. This unique hotel is made entirely of ice and snow. You’ll spend the night in a freshly carved Ice Room, where the temperature ranges from -5 to -8°C. Sleep comfortably in a thermal sleeping bag on a thick mattress. Consider upgrading to an Art Suite or Deluxe Suite with a private sauna and bathroom. Explore the ICEHOTEL, visit the ICEBAR, and see the ice sculptures. In the evening, enjoy a 3-course dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. After dinner, join an optional Northern Lights safari to spot one of the most magical natural phenomenon the earth has to offer.
Day 2 – Dog Sledding & Snowmobiling
Wake up amidst breathtaking ice sculptures and warm up with hot lingonberry juice. After a rejuvenating sauna session and shower, you’ll embark on an exciting dog sledding tour, gliding through the winter wonderland of frozen lakes, old pine forests, and snowy trails. Take a break in a traditional Sámi tipi tent, where you’ll enjoy hot drinks and cookies while listening to stories about the area and its wildlife. In the evening, join a thrilling snowmobile safari across the Arctic wintry landscape, with a cozy dinner in a wilderness cabin along the way. If luck is on your side, you’ll witness the astonishing Aurora lighting up the dark polar sky.
Day 3 – Sámi Culture Experience & Ice Dinner
Spend the day with a local Sámi reindeer herder, where you will learn more about their culture. Meet and feed reindeer and try lasso throwing, a crucial but traditional technique for gathering reindeer. Take an exhilarating short reindeer sledge ride through the snow-covered forest. Enjoy a traditional Sámi lunch around a campfire, featuring dishes like smoked reindeer meat and locally picked lingonberries. The herder will share stories about the land and their interaction with the nature, giving you a glimpse into the modern Sámi way of life. This evening you will enjoy a fascinating 4-course Ice Menu dinner. Some of the dishes will be served on plates made by ice from the Torne River! Inspired by the Northern Swedish culture, the chef creates modern dishes with carefully selected local ingredients of the season.
Day 4 – Departure Day
After daily striking of topics from your Bucket List, today it’s time to travel home. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time to relax and unwind. If you’re feeling creative, try your hand at ice sculpture making under the guidance of an experienced instructor. If your flight is early, check out of your hotel room and take a private transfer to Kiruna Airport. For a truly memorable farewell to Lapland, upgrade your departure transfer to a thrilling dogsled ride to the airport.
