Jokkmokk

Located about 5km north of the Arctic Circle, Jokkmokk is an important cultural hub for the region’s indigenous Sami population. The surroundings consist of vast forestland, marshland and mountains with national parks of Sarek and Padjelanta. This town with its certain mythical charm, has long been a significant trading area. It is the best places in Lapland to stock up on authentic Sámi art and handicraft products. The Ájtte Museum, one of Sweden’s best museums, is dedicated to showcase the viable Sámi culture.

With its only 5000 inhabitants, Jokkmokk is a yet unfamiliar destination for many people. However, the town annually hosts one of Swedish oldest markets, dating back to the middle ages, attracting both traders from across Sapmi region as well as international tourists to Jokkmokk.

How we handle COVID-19

Updated: 3 December.

Luleå Travel is committed to make sure that you as a guest are protected while being outdoors with our professional guides. Swedish Lapland is already naturally isolated from the rest of the planet, being sparsely populated and having its natural openness. About a quarter of a million people, 2.6 per cent of Sweden’s population live here, resulting in a density of approx 3 persons/km2. But still we believe that it is critical that we do everything in our power to maintain a healthy and sanitary environment.

Here are a few practices that we are following to make sure that you can focus on your free time; chasing the Northern Lights, Snowshoe walking, Ice Fishing or any of the other activities you are planning to do with us. Making memories that will last a lifetime with our team of professional guides.

Keep it clean

We will be sanitising all of our equipment after each tour to ensure that the gear we provide you is clean and ready for action. Our vehicles used for transfers will be regular sanitised and thoroughly cleaned. High-frequency touch points such as door handles, armrests, window buttons and seat belts will be cleaned between each journey.

Personal protection equipment

Personal protection equipment will be available upon request during our tours and transfers. This includes hand sanitiser, gloves and face masks. All of these items will be available upon request throughout the time that you are with us.

Reduced volume of guests

Luleå Travel has always worked with small groups. We believe in quality before quantity, ensuring that each of the guests enjoys the activity in the best kind of way. This focus on quality naturally means that you will never be out in nature with large crowds when booking an activity with us.

We will continue working with small groups and even reduce the number of guests if a transfer is necessary. For your and our safety facemasks are mandatory during our transfers for everybody older than 12 years.

Special payment term

Maximising your experience has always been our core value, even before you travel! Due to the special situation right now, Luleå Travel extends a flexibility on deposit payments for all our travel packages. You can now book the package without paying a non refundable deposit. An invoice will be sent to you 45 days prior to arrival, allow you to better observe the travel situation with the least financial concern. Meanwhile we know you are planning to come so that we can arrange your holiday in the best possible way (instead of short notice…). If there is some activity or accommodation bookings that must require a deposit earlier due to availability, we will communicate with you and always have your wish prioritised!

Special 14 days cancellation terms

For some of our travel packages we can apply our special COVID-19 cancellation terms. Where a full refund (minus 5% administration costs) will be provided for cancellations up to 14 days before the arrival date. Valid COVID-19 issues are:
1. Outgoing or incoming borders closing and/or announcement of formal government advice recommending against travel to Sweden due to COVID-19 risk.

Swedish Public Health Agency

We believe that these simple measures together with following the instructions and recommendations from the Swedish Public Health Agency will give you peace of mind when you visit Luleå in Swedish Lapland. For general information regarding travelling to Sweden during the COVID-19 pandemic, we recommend to visit the Emergency Situation Website from the Swedish Authorities. Here you can find summarised information about restrictions and regulations you need to be aware of if you are planning a stay in Sweden.

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions you may have and we will be more than happy to discuss what we are doing to keep you safe.
