Each winter, the sea outside Luleå freezes solid, creating a natural highway between the islands of Hindersön, Junkön, Sandön, and Storbrändön. Around 30 kilometers of ice roads are carefully ploughed and maintained by the municipality, a unique winter service for both locals and visitors.
