This 7 days winter holidays starts in Stockholm, where you willl explore the historic landmarks and cultural treasures of the vibrant capital of Sweden with a private guided tour. You can explore world-class museums, like the Vasa Museum, or stroll through Gamla Stan, the enchanting medieval old town with its narrow, cobblestone streets lined with centuries-old, colorful buildings. Arctic Circle train

After visiting Stockholm, your journey continues further north on board of the overnight train to Kiruna. This sustainable travel experience departs from +Stockholm and crosses all of Sweden to Kiruna, a city in the heart of Swedish Lapland. From there the Arctic Circle Train goes to Narvik, a port town in Norway. The breathtaking scenery and remote areas it traverses make the Arctic Circle Train one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. Upon arrival in Kiruna you get off the train and travelled 150km above the Arctic Circle.

Kiruna, Swedish Lapland

Kiruna is Sweden’s northernmost city. It’s location inside the Auroral oval is not only perfect for Northern Lights viewing, it’s also one of the best bases for travelers wanting to explore rural Lapland. Kiruna is a part of Sápmi and has been home for many generations of Sámi people. Here you will experience the thrill of Dogsledding and Snowmobiling.  Visit the world’s first ICEHOTEL, grab a refreshing drink at the one-of-a-kind ICEBAR and embark on a must-do tour to chase the majestic Northern Lights.

ITINERARY

Winter Break Stockholm & Kiruna | 7 days / 6 nights

Day 1 – Arrival day

Your Stockholm odyssey starts the moment you arrive at Arlanda Airport! Hop on the fast and eco-friendly Arlanda Express train. Skipping all the traffic, you’ll be in the heart of the city in just 20 minutes. For the next few days, you’ll stay at the cozy and family-run Freys Hotel, a short 200-meter walk from Stockholm Central Station and the Arlanda Express stop. Stockholm, Scandinavia’s largest city, seamlessly combines rich history, natural beauty, and the vibrant energy of a modern metropolis.

Day 2 – Stockholm. private Old Town walking tour

To enrich your experience in Stockholm, a private city walking tour is included for you. The guide will meet you by the hotel reception and together you will visit the main attractions of Stockholm. The itinerary and distance of walking are subject to your interest. You may want to visit the Royal Palace, one of the Europe’s largest palaces. A must-do in Stockholm is visiting the beautiful old town, Gamla Stan, one of the best-preserved medieval city centers in Europe. In this idyllic district, you’ll find cobblestone streets and narrow alleyways surrounded by charming mustard and rust-colored houses.

Day 3 – Overnight train to Kiruna

During the day, you will almost have a full day to further explore Stockholm. You may try ice skating in the heart of Stockholm at Kungsträdgården. Stroll through the snowy parks of Djurgården. Discover the city’s vibrant design and fashion scene in the boutiques and galleries of Östermalm and Södermalm. In the evening, you will cross the Arctic Circle to Swedish Lapland by an overnight train ride. This Arctic Circle train from Stockholm to Kiruna offers a sustainable and cozy travel experience. Relax in your private sleeping compartment, designed for your comfort and privacy, with a shared WC and shower located at the end of the corridor.

Day 4 – Chasing the Northern Lights

Upon arriving in Kiruna, you’ll already be 150km above the Arctic Circle. A private transfer will lead you to your accommodation. The family-owned Camp Ripan is located on the edge of the Kiruna city center, offering great views into the mountain landscape. All of its cozy private timber chalets ensure you will have a comfortable rest after daily activities. After a hearty 3-course dinner from Camp Ripan, this evening you will engage in an amazing Northern Lights adventure with minibus.

Day 5 – Snowmobiling & ICEHOTEL

Today you will embark on a snowmobile safari through the snow-covered forests. Keep an eye out for wildlife like reindeer and moose along the way and capture memorable moments. After driving through the cold, warm up in a traditional tipi tent, where a delicious lunch will be cooked over an open flame. Followed by a visit to the remarkable world’s first ICEHOTEL. Discover the hotel and its art exhibition featuring awesome sculptures and cold rooms made entirely of ice and snow. Enjoy a refreshing drink served in a glass made of ice at the popular ICEBAR. If you are interested in Sámi culture, you may take the chance to visit the near-by Sámi open museum and meet its reindeers, or even try on a reindeer sledge ride.

Day 6 – Dogsledding Adventure & Aurora Spa

Kick-off your day with an unforgettable dogsledding adventure through the Arctic wilderness. Sitting comfy on the sled, you can relax while your guide expertly mushes the dogs. Take a break along the route for a Swedish fika and a hot drink. Upon returning to Camp Ripan, relax in the hotel’s award-winning Aurora Spa. Enjoy the winter landscape through the panoramic windows of the indoor pool, or feel the refreshment of the Arctic winter against your cheeks in the outdoor warm pool.

Day 7 – Departure Day

As you wrap up your daily adventures, you’ll soon be departing from this beautiful winter wonderland.Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some spare time to relax or fit in another memorable experience in Kiruna. If you have an early flight, it’s time to check out of your hotel room and pack up. We’ll arrange a convenient transfer to Kiruna Airport to ensure a smooth departure.
